QS International Rankings: the University of Bologna reaches positions 19 in Europe and 71 worldwide in Academic Reputation

In the QS World University Rankings 2022, the University of Bologna gets to position 68 in Europe and 166 in the world. Once again, Unibo sits in the top 1% of the best universities worldwide

The University of Bologna is ranked 166th in the QS World University Rankings 2022. Unibo is first in Italy, 19th in Europe and 71st worldwide as far as Academic Reputation is concerned. This is the highest weighting indicator in the ranking (40% of the entire score); it collates the evaluations made by over 130,000 members of academia.

Globally, the University of Bologna holds on to its position among the world's top 200 and ranked 68th among European universities (and 36th among universities in the EU). The 2022 QS World University Rankings evaluated 1,300 universities from around the world (145 more than last year), covering 97 different locations. Since there are 26,000 universities in the world, the University of Bologna sits in the top 1%.

Despite their inevitably limited view over the university context, such results are a source of great pride for our university; even more so if we consider that QS' metrics tend to privilege universities with lower student/teacher ratios. If we look at the top 68 universities in Europe, Unibo is the largest one. The 67 institutions preceding the Alma Mater in this ranking averagely have less than half students and a higher student/professor ratio. Despite this mismatch, the indicator measuring Academic Reputation rewards the University of Bologna by placing it among the first 20 universities in Europe and 71st worldwide.

QS is one of the most influential university world rankings and is read by tens of millions of students every year. QS international ranking collates the opinions of over 130,000 teachers, professors and researchers and more than 75,000 responses from managers and HR executives. Finally, QS assessed 96 million citations from 14.7 million papers.
