Betty Vuk is the new Italian absolute judo champion in the −78 kg category. The 25-year-old athlete from Friuli is one of the leading figures of Judo Club Tolmezzo, but for several seasons she has also competed for CUS Bologna At the Italian Absolute Judo Championships, held in Ostia, she won four bouts to secure another major success.


“It has been a particularly difficult year, and to go all the way I had to defeat all my main rivals,” she says. “I built on the success I achieved in August at the European University Championships, and I focused on that.”


Betty Vuk is a student at the University of Bologna. Enrolled in the degree programme in Criminological Sciences for Investigation and Security at the Forlì Campus, she is also part of the Dual Career programme, which allows student-athletes to balance their sporting careers with their academic commitments.

In preparation for the title, she trained at the Budokan Institute, Judo Imola and Sempre Avanti (particularly with regard to athletic and technical aspects), under the close supervision of Giorgia Dalla Corte. Once on the tatami, she overcame Cinzia Caponetto (Virtus, Palermo), Rachele Paris (Marassi, Genoa), Irene Caleo (Akiyama, Turin) and Claudia Sperotti (Accademia, Turin).


Betty Vuk was not the only athlete linked to CUS Bologna to make her mark at the Italian Absolute Championships in Ostia. Also competing was Sofia Bragagni (Akdk, Gambettola), a student at the University of Bologna, who won the bronze medal in the −63 kg category.
