Will three minutes be enough? The 3-Minute-Thesis Competition is back

Only 180 seconds to explain a research project in English with only one slide: this will be the challenge between 14 PhD students of the University of Bologna. The winner will have the possibility to be selected to participate in the international final scheduled for next June

How to explain a PhD project in just 180 seconds? The 14 finalists of the 3-Minute-Thesis Competition will try to show how. The competition is organised by the University of Bologna for its PhD students attending the second or third year of a doctoral programme.

The final round for the Unibo Edition is scheduled for Thursday 24 February at 4.30PM, and will be streamed live. More than sixty applications were submitted to take part in this year's edition. Only 14 finalists have been selected among them. They will explain in English their research project including its background, data, purposes, and reasons in no more than 180 seconds with only one slide.

A jury of experts together with a voting audience will choose the best performance. The winner will have the possibility to be selected to participate in the international final of the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis Competition, which is scheduled in June at the University of Padua.

The 3-Minute-Thesis Competition started in Australia at the University of Queensland and is promoted in Europe by the Coimbra Group, an international association of universities including the University of Bologna.
