Rector Giovanni Molari has sent a new message to the Turkish and Syrian student community. This message follows the one in the days immediately after the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in the night between 5 and 6 February, which voiced via social media the sympathy of the University of Bologna to the populations affected by the devastating earthquake.
"I would like to express to you personally my sorrow and the University of Bologna's sympathy to you, to your loved ones, and to all the populations affected by the devastating earthquake that has ravaged large areas of Turkey and Syria. We are following with dismay the news coming from Turkey and Syria, and we want to do our best to help both those who have been directly or indirectly affected by the earthquake and those who are suffering its emotional toll."
To this end, the University has taken steps to raise awareness among its community by indicating via e-mail and online the main international humanitarian organisations working to raise funds for immediate support to the local populations: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - UNHCR; Italian Red Cross; Kızılay.
Moreover, as every year, at the beginning of March the University of Bologna and Er.Go (Regional Authority for the Right to Higher Education) will issue a specific joint call addressed to students in need. Following a selection procedure, the call provides fee waivers and financial support. Information will be available on the University website.
Lastly, students can immediately request the extension of the deadline for the third instalment of tuition fees by writing to ases.contribuzionistudentesche@unibo.it.
