The PNRR Cascade Funding Calls from the University of Bologna provides almost 50 million euros to businesses, universities, and research institutions to implement innovative and high-value projects in all strategic sectors of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The first calls have already been published, and by the beginning of 2024, 21 more will be released, with a total financial allocation of around 48.5 million euros, of which almost half (23.5 million) is allocated to institutions and businesses with operational headquarters in Southern Regions of Italy (Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia, and Sicily). All updated information is available on the university's website.
The PNRR Cascade Funding Calls are designed to incentivise the development of high-value projects capable of generating significant economic and social impact. Thanks to them, part of the resources managed by the University of Bologna can be allocated to external entities involved in various projects financed by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). In this way, businesses and public and private institutions can access funding and strategic expertise to carry out research and development activities necessary to achieve all the objectives of the PNRR projects.
From adapting to climate change to innovative materials, from artificial intelligence to green manufacturing, from new technologies for health to digital transition, the range of topics targeted by the calls issued so far is already extensive. The scope will expand further in the coming weeks with the publication of new funding opportunities.
Each call is intended for specific types of entities, including businesses (both SMEs and large enterprises), startups, universities, research entities, and can finance various types of projects, from fundamental research to industrial research, to experimental development. Depending on the different topics addressed, each call specifies the themes for which funding can be requested. In almost all cases, a portion of the resources made available is intended for entities operating in the Southern Regions of Italy.
