QS ranking: the University of Bologna grows and reaches the 154th position worldwide

In the new edition of the QS World University Rankings, the University of Bologna is ranked 154 worldwide, gaining 13 positions compared to last year. The University of Bologna thus moves from the 12th to the 11th percentile of the best universities in the ranking, with a total of 1500, 85 more than the last edition.

The QS ranking - now in its 20th edition - has introduced important methodological changes this year, with the entry of new indicators and increasing integration with other QS surveys. The University of Bologna once again sits in the top 1% among over 26 thousand universities and continues the steady improvement in its global ranking started in 2017. Since 2014, the University has improved its performance by climbing 34 positions.

The excellent results with respect to Academic Reputation, the ranking's most relevant indicator (it makes up 30% of the final result), based on the evaluations of over 144,000 academics, were also confirmed: the University of Bologna ranks first in Italy (ahead of Sapienza University of Rome, Politecnico di Milano and the University of Padua) and 73rd in the world. Among the new indicators introduced is the one related to International Research Networking, in which the university ranks 75th worldwide.

But it comforts and motivates us to see that the University of Bologna performs well against all criteria. Over the last months we have come first in Italy in the Times Higher Education surveys, 23rd in the world in the THE Impact ranking based on universities' contributions toward the UN sustainability goals, second in the world for activities related to overcoming gender inequality. Moreover, for thirteen years the University of Bologna has been the best among the mega universities in the Italian Censis ranking. As for the QS survey, being first in Italy in terms of academic reputation is a source of particular pride, and it is certainly not due to our 935 years of history, but to the generous contribution of our entire community, in research, in teaching, in services: a daily contribution that renews our history and speaks volumes about our drive towards the future."
