The QS Higher Ed Summit Europe 2024 took place this morning in Barcelona to honour universities that have shown the most significant improvements across all indicators compared to the previous edition of the QS World University Rankings – Europe, which was announced yesterday. The University of Bologna's impressive leap of 30 places earned it the Global Engagement - Performance Improvement Award from the QS network. Professor Simona Tondelli, Vice Rector of the University of Bologna, accepted the award.
The University of Bologna is now ranked among the top 50 universities in Europe, moving from 78th to 48th place. This significant advancement has also secured the University the second position at the national level in Italy.
The rankings highlighted several strengths of the University, including academic reputation, sustainability, international outlook, and research quality. This year’s ranking includes 685 universities from 42 European countries, of which 51 are Italian. With its scores across various indicators, the University of Bologna surpasses 93% of all other universities in the ranking.
It ranks 17th in Europe and second in Italy for Academic Reputation, and it is first in Italy and 49th in Europe for Sustainability (an improvement of 79 positions from last year). The University also ranks 29th in Europe for Outgoing Student Mobility, 38th (second in Italy) for the breadth of its International Research Network, and 52nd (second in Italy) for Employer Reputation. Additionally, it holds the second place in Italy for Graduate Employability.
This new edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe was compiled using 1.9 million academic reputation responses and 660,000 employer reputation responses, along with the analysis of over 17.4 million scientific publications and 175 million citations.
