New Student Residence Inaugurated in Ravenna

Rector Giovanni Molari, together with local and regional authorities and the Minister of Universities and Research, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new ER.GO university residence offering 30 beds

On Friday, 25 October, the Rector of the University of Bologna, Giovanni Molari, joined Minister of Universities and Research Anna Maria Bernini, Regional Councillor Paola Salomoni, Mayor Michele de Pascale, and Archbishop Lorenzo Ghizzoni to inaugurate a new university residence in Ravenna.

The S. Vitale – S. Giovanni student residence will be managed by ER.GO, the Regional Authority for the Right to Higher Education, under a 12-year lease agreement with the S. Vitale Parish.

The facility consists of two adjacent buildings, forming a single residence with uniform service levels.  Located in the heart of the historic city centre, it is just steps away from the Basilica of S. Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and the main university facilities of the Ravenna Campus.

ER.GO carried out functional upgrades to make 30 beds available starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, including 22 single rooms and 8 double rooms.  The residence is equipped with kitchens, shared spaces, and amenities such as laundry, ironing facilities, and an internal courtyard with a covered bike parking area.

The student residence was deemed eligible under the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) call for university housing. This significant public initiative by the Regional authority for the right to education was made possible thanks to the sensitivity and collaboration of the Diocese of Ravenna, which has concretely contributed to welcoming students of the Ravenna Campus.

This project represents an important milestone within a broader framework of upcoming inaugurations of new student residences, a result of ongoing collaboration between the Region and the University. These include the opening of the first section of the new Baricentro student residence on Via San Giacomo in Bologna (35 beds), the Ex Enav residence in Forlì (64 beds), and a smaller facility in Ozzano (4 beds). Future projects also include 382 beds at the Lazzaretto residence in Bologna, where construction is already underway, as well as 51 beds at the Osservanza complex in Imola and 89 at the San Giuseppe Sposo complex in Bologna, with work on these sites expected to begin soon.
