Sustainable Alma Mater: more than a hundred micro-filtered water dispensers arrive at the university

They will be installed in all the Multicampus areas, are free of charge and offer both room temperature and chilled water: a strong signal of Alma Mater's commitment to reducing its environmental impact

More than a hundred micro-filtered water dispensers are available to the entire University of Bologna community. The dispensers, which will be installed in all Multicampus sites in the coming weeks, are free of charge and offer both room temperature and chilled water.

An inclusive and wide-ranging initiative that demonstrates Alma Mater's strong commitment to reducing environmental impact, improving the quality of life in university premises and encouraging increasingly responsible and environmentally friendly lifestyles.

"This measure will allow for a significant reduction in the use of single-use plastics and will help to promote environmentally friendly behaviour at the University," comments Rector Giovanni Molari. "Each of us has a vital role to play in protecting the environment for future generations, and every small gesture counts in our shared commitment to environmental sustainability".

Alma Mater is committed to promoting, planning and implementing actions and projects aimed at achieving a harmonious balance between buildings, people and the environment. The widespread deployment of the new dispensers throughout the Multicampus is in line with this and is part of a series of initiatives. These include public transport, with subsidised season tickets for students and staff and a range of measures to promote cycling, and energy, with a new energy plan that includes a €60 million investment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50% and cut the cost of its facilities.

In addition to the new water dispensers, the Alma Mater will also gradually replace the snack and drink dispensers. The new dispensers will comply with energy efficiency regulations and users will be able to refill their own containers. Cups and scoops will also have a low environmental impact, while the snack dispensers will offer products to meet different dietary needs.
