Athena, UniBo Motorsport’s electric car number 88, secured the first place in the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalonia, in Spain, in the second race of the Formula Student 2024 season.
The prototype realised by the University of Bologna passed all technical inspections - mechanical, battery pack and driver safety tests within the given time. Mechanical inspections were completed on the second day, battery pack inspections on the third, and electrical inspections, including Tilt, Rain and Brake test, were concluded on the fourth day, all with positive results.
The events – Cost Event, Engineering Design Event and Business Plan Presentation – provided an opportunity to showcase to the judges the work behind the design and creation of the prototype. The team placed seventh in the Cost Event, sixth in the Design Event and ninth in the Business Plan Presentation.
Despite some issues with the battery pack and brakes, which were promptly resolved, Athena proceeded with the Acceleration e Skidpad tests. The team ranked seventh and sixth respectively. An astonishing second place – among 25 electric teams – was reached in the Autocross test.
Finally hitting the track, Athena completed the 20 laps of the Endurance test securing the coveted first place. This victory allowed the team to climb the rankings and claim the top spot in the overall rankings.
The entire UniBo Motorsport team is extremely proud of the results obtained, as these represent the best possible comeback after 2023 season, where the car couldn’t take part in any competition. The team is now focusing on the next challenge: the ATA Formula, which will take place at the Varano de’ Melegari circuit between 4 and 8 September.
