A new concept of study space, created to encourage interaction, support group work and strengthen the sharing of ideas and knowledge. This is the Teamworking Room, inaugurated today at the Engineering campus on Via Terracini thanks to the work of the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering (DICAM) of the University of Bologna and the University’s technical offices.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Rector Giovanni Molari, Deputy Rector Simona Tondelli, and DICAM Director Valerio Cozzani. Covering more than 50 square metres, the new space is a flexible and innovative environment, with furnishings specifically designed to facilitate co-studying activities and collaboration.
A distinctive feature is the presence of three workstations designed to accommodate groups of different sizes and to support both concentration and communication. Each station is equipped with sofas seating four or six people, a table and a 32-inch LCD monitor to share presentations, documents or multimedia content.
Thanks to these dedicated, fully equipped areas, students can exchange ideas and collaborate in a dynamic and interactive way. Another key feature, located at the centre of the Teamworking Room, is a modular table made up of six wheeled units that can be easily combined to create a wide range of configurations. This design choice encourages modularity and adaptability, making it possible to move quickly from individual activities to group work or collective discussions.
The space is further equipped with six ergonomic chairs and four stools with side tables, making it welcoming and functional for a wide range of uses. The new study room has been designed with great attention to comfort, both in terms of design and acoustics. The main wall is clad in wooden panelling, which helps reduce sound reverberation and limit the reflection of sunlight, while the side walls feature custom graphics and additional acoustic panels.
The columns along the sides of the room are also an integral part of the space: coated with dark magnetic paint, they can be used as surfaces for sharing notes, messages or working drafts. Special attention has also been paid to technology and connectivity. Each workstation is equipped with multiple power sockets and various types of USB ports, allowing students to charge and use several personal devices at the same time.
Students can access the different workstations in the new study room via an online seat-booking service. The technical and architectural design of the Teamworking Room was developed by Professor Cesare Sangiorgi of the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering (DICAM) and architect Federico Foschi of the University’s Technical Area for Buildings and Sustainability (ATES), with technical support from Vincenzo Tamburrelli (ATES), Roberto Carli (DICAM) and Barbara Ravaglia (DICAM).
