Un appuntamento con Adam Rutherford - scienziato, divulgatore e conduttore televisivo inglese - per parlare di eugenetica a partire dal suo ultimo libro "Control: The dark history and troubling present of eugenics". L’ingresso è libero previa registrazione online.

L'evento - intitolato "The dark history and troubling present of eugenics" - è organizzato in occasione della European Social Science Genomics Network Conference, che si tiene a Bologna dal 18 al 20 maggio, con il sostegno dello ESRC Research Centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC) e del progetto ERC GENPOP (Genes, genealogies and the evolution of demographic change and social inequality), guidato da Nicola Barban, professore al Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche "Paolo Fortunati" dell'Università di Bologna.

Scienziato e divulgatore scientifico di fama internazionale, Adam Rutherford ha studiato Genetica allo University College London, dove ha anche partecipato alla scoperta della prima causa genetica di una particolare forma di cecità infantile. Nel corso della sua carriera di autore e divulgatore, ha ideato e presentato in televisione molte serie originali, più volte premiate, e ha scritto per le pagine scientifiche del Guardian. È autore di diversi libri di successo, tra cui "Breve storia di chiunque sia mai vissuto. Il racconto dei nostri geni" (2017) e "Cosa rispondere a un razzista. Storia, scienza, razza e realtà" (2020).

A keynote lecture by Adam Rutherford based on his latest book: "Control: The dark history and troubling present of eugenics". The public lecture is part of the European Social Science Genomics Network Conference that will take place in Bologna on 18-20 May 2022. The event is sponsored by the ESRC Centre on Micro-Social Science (MiSoC) and the European Research Council.

Adam Rutherford is a scientist, writer and broadcaster. He has written and presented award-winning programmes for the BBC, including Radio 4’s ‘Inside Science’ and ‘The Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry’ with Hannah Fry. He is the author of ‘Creation’, shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize, ‘A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived’, ‘The Book of Humans’, the Sunday Times bestselling ‘How to Argue with a Racist’ and the co-author of Rutherford and Fry’s ‘Complete Guide to Absolutely Everything (Abridged)’.
