Second Edition of the ALMA-AI Video Contest Kicks Off, Open to the University Student Community

The six best videos on artificial intelligence — exploring the opportunities and risks of its use in today’s world — will be awarded in the contest organised by the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (ALMA-AI)

The second edition of the Alma Mater Fest 2024 - AI Video Contest is now open. The competition offers prizes of up to €1,000 for the top six videos—no longer than three minutes and dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence on society—produced by undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students at the University of Bologna, who are enrolled for the 2025-2026 academic year, or for the 2024-2025 academic year, provided they have not yet graduated by 10 October 2025.

Established by the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (ALMA-AI), the contest includes two categories, open to both individual participants and teams of up to four members:

• “Video about AI”, for videos exploring the opportunities and risks of using artificial intelligence in contemporary society (for example, in areas such as the economy, human relationships, or the world of work);
• “Video made with AI”, which sets no restrictions on content but requires the video to be produced with a substantial contribution from generative AI technologies.

In each category, first-place winners will receive €1,000; second-place winners will be awarded €600, while the third-place ones will receive €400. All participants, regardless of their placement, will receive a certificate of participation.

The winners will be selected based on originality, relevance to the theme, quality, and artistic evaluation of the submitted works.

This year, registered participants will also have the opportunity to join a training workshop on creating video content using generative AI models, led by the creative team of Fantomatica.ai. Like any other medium, generative AI comes with its own creative and artistic constraints: during the workshop, scheduled for 17 October, students will learn how to develop ideas and scripts in line with the current capabilities and limitations of the most advanced AI models.

To take part in the contest, participants must upload their video to their institutional OneDrive account and share the link by sending an email to almaai.contestvideo@unibo.it no later than 30 October, following the instructions provided in the call for submissions.

The six winning videos — three per category — will be screened and awarded in mid-November.
