Lecture by Mariano Pérez Carrasco (CONICET - University of Buenos Aires, Argentina). This seminar will explore the literary and political uses of Dante Alighieri in the building of the Argentine national identity, from the mid-19th- to the early 20th-century. The romantic myth of Dante as the father of the Italian nation and as the founder of modern times was unexpectedly adopted by Argentine intellectuals and politicians to build the cultural identity of the new nation.
