With Alan Smith, Head of Visual and Data Journalism at the Financial Times, leading an interdisciplinary team of journalists in London, New York and Hong Kong, and Giorgia Aiello, Associate Professor in Sociology of Culture and Communication at the University of Bologna and Professor of Culture and Communication at the University of Leeds (UK).
This session will provide a visual biography of data visualisation at the Financial Times. The evolving relationship between the news and data visualisation has been deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, accelerating public demands for insight and placing greater demands on factors like chart literacy. The talk will articulate key elements of the Financial Times's strategy for data visualisation and its implementation.
