Peace & Democracy-Building in Post-communist Europe: The Role of Institutions

Institutional arrangements structure politics in ways that increase the likelihood of dominant political behaviour in elites everywhere, and the new elites operating within novel institutions are likely to opt in for a zero-sum logica of behaiour they have observed as successful in the past. In this context how institutional arrangements can encourage democracy building in postcommunist societies will be the focus of this presentation.
