This is a chance to explore and deepen knowledge on the most advanced approaches to coastal protection and resilience. Applications are open until 15 December for "Sustainable Coastal Growth and Resilience, the free course, designed for young researchers, scholars, and environmental experts, and promoted by the Decade Collaborative Center for Coastal Resilience, the United Nations Centre for Coastal Resilience for Sustainable Development, hosted by the University of Bologna in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi".
The initiative combines the possibilities of virtual learning with a final in-person workshop at the University Center of Bertinoro. The course kicks off with a ten-week online programme, running from 27 January to 4 April, that explores key topics in coastal resilience. Participants will engage in comprehensive theoretical training and take part in interactive discussions. The online course is managed through the OceanTeacher Global Academy (OTGA), a reference platform built to equitably promote knowledge in the field of ocean sciences, aligned with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030.
The course culminates in a week-long in-person workshop (from 7 to 11 April) at the University Centre of Bertinoro. Here, participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a range of practical contexts, engage in field training sessions, and network with peers and industry experts.
The initiative is entirely free, including travel and accommodation costs for the week in Bertinoro. To participate, applicants should hold a Master's degree in a field related to the course topics (e.g., environmental sciences, coastal engineering, political sciences) and have between one and five years of experience in coastal or environmental management, as well as a good command of English.
