Students grappled with solutions for traveling green and experimenting with the use of more sustainable means of transportation at Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) during the Green Student Mobility Project, an initiative coordinated by the University of Bergen and promoted by the Utrecht Network, in which the University of Bologna is also participating.
An attitudinal gap is often present when it comes to implementing concrete actions to protect the environment: indeed, while students declare themselves to be attentive and interested in environmental issues, in practice, when it comes to mobility, they do not always make environmentally friendly choices. With this initiative, through teamwork and collaboration, students were thus able to discuss and develop ideas and proposals to create a better future and a more sustainable world.
"This experience allowed me to understand the actual difficulties in terms of cost and time that are associated with using environmentally friendly means of transportation, such as train or bus," says Viktoriya Husak, a student at the University of Bologna who participated in the initiative. "I returned to Italy with more awareness on these issues and a propensity to make green travel a habitual choice within my upcoming mobility planning."
Through the Utrecht Network's Green Student Mobility Project, the universities involved are actively contributing to creating a more sustainable society by educating and raising awareness among young students about the importance of green travel choices.
Active since 1980, the Utrecht Network - of which the University of Bologna is a partner - carries out its activities in the area of internationalization of higher education by fostering student mobility, faculty exchanges and the implementation of Summer Schools.
