"I am certain that I am expressing the thoughts and feelings of the entire University of Bologna in conveying our deepest condolences and dismay in the face of the killing of Giulia Cecchettin, a biomedical engineering student at the University of Padua.
Our heartfelt thoughts go to her family, friends, and fellow students.
As a sign of mourning, in memory of Giulia Cecchettin and all victims of feminicide and gender-based violence, I ask our entire community to observe a minute of silence at the beginning of classes, final exam sessions, and institutional meetings throughout this week, which significantly concludes with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November). I also ask you to encourage, during classes, free and open discussions on gender-based violence, and to remind that the University provides a dedicated service open to our entire community (University Helpdesk against gender-based violence).
This way, we wish to express not only our solidarity with those who have suffered and continue to suffer gender-based violence but also our commitment to work against it in every way and at every level."
